Travelers

A bright blue sun shown down on the vessel floating on the endless emerald ocean. The Hellish Insanity was a small vessel with one lone sail and a small crows nest above it for sight. There did not seem to be much to the small ship but looks are deceiving. This particular boat was a run by a group of smugglers heading to the MyrRin continent from the Hume continent. It was quiet a distance by ship but the crew was experienced and well seasoned on the seas. They could make the passing with minimal issues.

The crew was comprised of a trio of Scalekin that screamed dangerous to any passing observer. The Captain stood at the helm looking ahead with a sharp eye. He was a bright blue Scalekin with mottling of green and yellow dotting his scales. He wore bright red trousers and a dashing cerulean coat with golden buttons. His first mate was a hulking crimson Dragonborn with missing wings and tail. With a sword at his back and a menacing look in his eye, he was easily the most intimidating of the three. The last member of the crew was a magenta Scalekin with a full tail and hood very much like a snake. He kept quiet and to himself so he was the most mysterious of the three, moving through the shadows like a ghost.

Only one other figure was visible upon the small deck of the diminutive boat. The figure was covered in a black cloak and the hood was up. The figure sat in a corner of the deck that was out of the way but within sight of the entire ship so nothing could take them by surprise. The person read a book perched on their knees and at their feet lay a black cat snoozing in the bright noon sun. Occasionally, the cloaked figure would pause in the reading to make a note or observation in another small notebook and continued reading when done. Everything seemed calm and at ease, this sunny afternoon. The ocean was tranquil and the skies were clear of even the faintest cloud. The only sound to be heard was the gentle crash of the surf upon the boat as it parted the waves before it.

Beneath the ship, trouble brewed…

In the darkness below deck something stirred among the crates and boxes stacked haphazardly in the cramped space. A sharp crack was audible but was drowned out by the sound of the waves above deck. In the shadows, a small figure shook free of the debris left from breaking out of a crate. She looked around and was able to make out other boxes of various sizes around her. She touched the broken wood beneath her feet and felt that the wood was wet and porous. It had been wet for a while. She felt the listing of the place she was in and knew she was on the water somewhere, but had no idea where she was at.

Bogbean was a small Hume creature that would be called a Dimmin but for her bright green skin. the Dimmin did not have colors of that variant. She was something new, with sharp teeth and pointed ears and the ability to morph into creatures she could see. Bogbean was in a brand new place but it would not hold her for long. She was hungry after all this time spent in this area. There had been no food in days and she needed to eat something now. With that in mind, she began tearing into the various boxes in search of anything to sink her teeth into.

The first box she broke open gave off the worst stench she had ever smelled! From the remnants of the damp wood rolled a severed head. The head gave off the smell of something long dead but as Bogbean crept closer to get another sniff, the eyes rolled and looked at her with pleading in them. It had long dirty blonde hair. It’s eyes were different color, one green and one white as they rolled in the head. A dusty creak came out of the mouth as it gaped open. Bogbean could only look on in disgust as it asked it croaked out,

“Sprechen sie Emnarian?”

Choking back a gag, Bogbean shrugged at the head in confusion. She continued breaking into other boxes now that she had dismissed the head as a possible source of food and found yet another source of nasty stench as she found a body that probably belonged to the musty head trying to talk to her. The smell became overwhelming in the enclosed space. It reminded her of the swamps of her home with the low stench of decay all around. She shoved it in a corner along with the head as she went back to her hunt for food. The head yelled, “Nien! Nien!” as she shoved it in the corner with the rest of the stinky body.
