In the morning, the travelers woke up to a bustling activity around them. The vendor carts were out and ready to sell. Meanwhile, Tobias’ cart was dark. He was glad to note that the cart was still clean and in good condition. No one had damaged it in anger or disgust. Tobias faced a large amount of preparation if he wanted to sell well while at the festival. It would take him all day to prepare the food.
Luna saw that he was looking bewildered at what lay ahead, so she volunteered to help him in whatever he needed to get his wares ready for sale.

“I can help you if you’d like? It’s the least I could do for all the food you’ve been providing us.”
“Oh, that would be great. I would be here all day otherwise!”
“No worries! I’ve had to cut up my own dinner before.”
She began attacking the vegetables with her knife until Tobias taught her how to properly mince and dice. Together they got to work, while the others decided what to do with their time.
Outside the cart, Drexla came out with everyone else after her morning notes and idea crafting. Her prototypes were coming along well. Bogbean saw her and ran up to her with an excited bounce.
“dere were dese reelly scary peeple lookin for u i tink. dey had a pictur of u an asked if i saw u but i said no.”
“Humes here?”
“yea dey gave me a reelly bad feeling.”
“They’re after me.”
“reelly? did u do somting bad?
“I was just trying to help! Shit, I thought we had more time.”
“wat happened?”
“My father was commissioned by the leader of a group, who was deathly afraid of being put to sleep by magic or poison or something like that. He asked my father to make him something that would protect him from that. So, with my little hands, I made a collar that would wake him up if he started to fall asleep. The problem with that was that every six seconds, it goes off, as a safety precaution so he doesn’t fall asleep and it doesn’t come off. So he probably hasn’t slept in a while and isn’t very happy right now.”
“dat sounds very scary!”
“It sounded like a good idea at the time!
“Zat sounds very cruel.”

“I gave him what he asked for, I wasn’t trying to be rude! I was doing my job.”
“Maybe ze fae have a different opinion on how zings are run?”
“dats tru, i dont want to judge.”
“When you buy a weapon, don’t you want it to work all the time?”
“Well, ja.”
“That’s what I did. I gave him something that worked all the time and did not get run down. It’s expert craftsmanship!”
“Vell, you have a good point zere.”
“So that’s why they’re mad at me and that’s part of what got them killed.”
“I don’t see why they would be mad at you.” Captain V said with a wry smile.
“They came and were very mad at my father. They saw me and yelled that there was a Fae and attacked. After they killed dad, they set our cart on fire while my mom and I were still inside. She helped me escape through a small hatch but she couldn’t fit and died too. I escaped but they’re still after me. I though coming here would be better. I figured it would be safer because they were more noticeable and I don’t know if you’ve noticed but there aren’t a lot of Humes around here. I figured I would have more time to prepare, to escape or get better protection. I just don’t know why they would still be after me. If he hadn’t gotten any sleep, he would have been dead by now.”
“So, do you have somezing against Humes?” asked a nervous Bricky.
“They killed my dad and burned my mom alive. Yea, I think I have a grudge.”
Bricky nodded in agreement, then mumbled something in Emnarian and stumbled a bit.
“Sorry what?” Drexla asked.
“Pardon, I am not feeling good.”
“What’s wrong? What do you need?”
“I don’t know. I don’t know what I need. I just don’t feel.. well.”
“Well I saw a shadow Bricky earlier. So if you lost your shadow, I don’t know what that could do to a person.”
“You lost your shadow?” asked V in disbelief.

“Well I saw a shadow Bricky that was running around knocking stuff off tables and ran through a couple of shops before I lost track of it. But it was a shadow Bricky because it was the same size and nothing here looks like Bricky. It looked exactly like Bricky but a shadow and solid.”
“You’re not on anything are you?” V asked Drexla with a squint in his eye.
“I won’t lie, I have been sometimes, but not during this time.”
“Well, I don’t think you lose your shadow except at night of course.” said V.
V looked a bit closer at Bricky and he checked for a shadow as they were surrounded by fire light. A shadow should be there. He was slightly distracted by the delicious scents of food around him but he didn’t notice anything wrong.
Drexla however, looked closer and observed from afar as V moved around him. There was no change in the was the light played on Bricky. There were no shadows coming from him. She wanted to be sure so she moved closer and asked to see Bricky’s hand. He showed it to her and she grabbed at it, looking at it from all angles. She wanted to see how it would react to the light. So, she started to pull Bricky towards the fire.
“Come closer to the fire. I want to see something.”
Bricky locked up for a moment. He did not budge an inch closer to the fire. Drexla felt Bricky pull his hand back, out of her hands and looked back to see what had happened. Bricky was already running away from the fire as fast as he could without signs of slowing. He ran past Tobias’ cart, using it as a means to launch himself further forward, and shoving it a good two inches back as he leapt forward.
Two people walking together on the street where jostled as he barreled through them rushing as far away as he could. He showed no signs of stopping. The only one who had a chance of catching him in this frantic state was Bogbean who sprung into action to try and catch up.
