Reporting to Chief Hunza

The group walked around for a bit, stopping every now and then to ask an inhabitant of the camp for directions to the elder’s hut. Bricky had picked up Bogbean and was carrying her on his shoulders as she became tired after all the walking around. After a few moments, they came upon the sturdy wooden building that was the community hall where the elders presided.

The walls were decorated with a plethora of weaponry. All the displayed pieces were beautiful and intricately made. A long wooden table ran the length of the hall for community seating. Hunza, the elder from before, was sitting there polishing and cleaning some of the wall pieces. She paused in her tasks when she saw them approach.

“Nice to see you,” she referred to Bricky,” I didn’t think I’d ever see you again, thought you were dead?”

“He is,” replied both Bogbean and Luna in unison

Hunza gave them a wary look before continuing her polishing. Tobias stepped forward to speak but was met with a blade at his throat. She had drawn it so quick, he had not registered it leaving the scabbard at her hip.

“Are you the leader to speak to here?”

“What does a Rhomar want with me?”

“Well there’s some bad news unfortunately.”

“You’re kind is known for the bad news” she snarled as she swung the words down and away from his throat.

“Well I’m afraid I will be continuing the tradition.”

“I vould say ze same about your people, after last night.”

“I have no idea what you’re talking about.”

“Vell, I valked into your camp und before I know it I’m on zhe ground und everyzhing goes black.”

“As I understand it, it was not our people that did that but rather, Ella’s cantankerous imaginary friend.”

“So you do know of zhe creature?”

“Supposedly there is a creature with large eyes and is a little aggressive.”

“Zhat is what happened.”

“From what I understand he scratched you. I doesn’t bode well for you that a mere scratch brought you down.”

“We actually came here looking for that creature and oddly enough, our friend ran into it and was downed. Then we came looking for it again today, and it attacked our little friend here, who can see it as well. She described it in the same way, with large bulging eyes and sharp claws and teeth. When the smaller one here threw fire at it, we saw the outline of a large monster before the fire went out and it disappeared from our vision again. We followed it to a house where it was observed entering and leaving. When we went inside we observed a dead body inside.”

“From what I understand only children can see this creature.”

“Yes, Bogbean is still a child in a way.”

Bogbean pouted at being called a child but stayed silent.

“So you are saying you had nothing to do with this alleged attack?”

“No mam, we have no blood on us and can take you there now to examine for yourself.”

“We have never had a problem until your friend stepped foot inside our camp.”

“That is not what I have heard, Ella let us know that when she is upset at people, Mr. Peepers makes them disappear for her.”

“So this creature can slash and carry people away now?”

“Not carry away no. Perhaps they do not disappear. Perhaps Ella doesn’t see those people anymore is because it killed them.”

Hunza looked at him with a distrusting look in her eye before turning to Bogbean.

“So you can see this creature can you?”

“yea but he din’t look the same as when he was in da room wit all da blood.”

“And this creature looks deadly?”

“yea, i’d say so.”

“Well, where do we find this creature then?

“ella said it comes to her in her dreams.”

“Or vhen she is threatened.” Bricky chimed in.

“Well, I would not hurt a fellow tribe member but how can we fight something we cannot reach or see?”

“That is a great question ma’am.” V added.

“We did manage to hurt it not that long ago when we hit it with magic.” Tobia volunteered.

“You can cast magics?!”

“The little one had a scroll of some sort.”

Hunza nodded and turned to Luna.

“You, powerful woman, you can cast magics also?”

“Sometimes.”

“You’ll have to show me sometime.”

‘I have magic as well.” Tobias offered.

“I’d rather learn from her.” Hunza huffed back.

With a quick flick of her wrist Luna made a handful of berries appear in her hand.

Hunza marveled at the feat with wide eyes and a small gasp.

Drexla coughed and continued talking about the creature.

“We know that Bogbean tried to hit it with her scythe and it didn’t do anything but magic hurt it.”

“Well, I know little one, you must not be strong enough to hurt the creature.”

“She was the one that hit it.” Drexla pointed at Bogbean.

“They won they battle last night!” Luna added with incredulity.

“i landed a hit but it went right through it!”

“But it did hit something because there are gouge marks in the sword from where it stopped it with its claw.” Luna added.

“yea here.” Bogbean brought out the sword and presented it to Hunza for inspection.

Hunza’s face grew sour as she saw the sword in Bogbean’s hand.

“Where did you get this sword?”

“hebe.”

“How do you know that name?”

“she was my mom.”

“I’m going to ask you again, and do not lie to me. How do you know that name?”

“She’s not lying to you.” Luna defended Bogbean. “She seems to have been raised by a pack of Mir’Sha.”

“Were you with her?”

“Well no, I only just met her, but she’s been honest about everything from the start.”

“How do you know this woman though?”

“she took me in.”

“But, where?”

“i was in da swamp and i found a village but she was the nicest one. she taught me how to fish and hunt and stuff.”

How did you come about the sword? Did she give it to you?”

“i took it from her, but she wasn’t here anymore.”

“She’s dead. How did she pass?”

“she drank da special drink she made. i wasn’t allowed to know da recipe but i helped her gather the herbs and sat with her when she fell asleep for da last time.”

“She would not have taken the easy way out like that. She would have prefered to die in combat.”

“i never saw her fight. that was one thing i wasn’t allowed to do. she never taught me how to fight.”

Hunza stayed silent for a few moments before sighing and turning back to the group.

“We will investigate the murder. Let one of the guards outside know where to go. Right now I need to be alone.”

Having addressed the newcomers, Hunza turned and began walking away, already in deep thought. She disappeared around a corner and after a few moments, the group could hear the sharp sound of a grinding wheel and a weapon being worked on. The group began to leave the tent and let the guard outside know what to do before they left.”
