Tobias meditated before bed and reached out to his mysterious dream friend. He searched and searched for her but she did not answer. Faced with the silence, Tobias made ready to sleep instead. Luna wound down by beginning to analyze the blood she gathered from Bricky. She didn’t expect results right away but liked to get started on her process so she could think about it in the back of her head as they traveled. After a bit of relaxation before bed, everyone settled down for the evening.
Near slumber, eyes half lidded with sleep, Tobias pondered on his pressing concerns. The little girl was important. He had to save her, but he didn’t know how. He needed more help. If only she had answered his prayer. With such thoughts, Tobias fell into deep sleep and dreamed.

He looked out upon a bright and vibrant land full of all kinds of colors. So unnatural and bleeding into each other that he knew he could not be in the waking world. Animals of iridescent shades grazed on grass of many colors. Tobias noticed a figure standing behind him and turned to find the lady of his dreams towering over him as she gazed down. Her presence was overwhelming and Tobias had to muster everything in him to continue looking and speaking with her as normal. It was not a gaze of yearning nor was there romance to their meetings. She was his guide and protector. She had helped him when no one else would or could have. He followed her because of this, continuing her nurturing path in the waking world. With great effort he addressed her with a voice barely above a whisper.
“Hello, fancy meeting you here.” He thought he had made a clever, charming greeting.
“I am always here” She did not get it. “The dreams are what keep me here. What is wrong Tobias?”
“I found the one you were talking about..”
“Yes, Ella.”
“and her friend.”
“Did you stop it?” She asked with a desperate note in her voice.
“I wasn’t able to. We couldn’t even see it. Only feel it. It disappeared the moment we tried to attack it. It felt like it came here.”
The lady looked worried. She looked off into the distance and pointed with a trouble frown. The wonderful, colorful landscape stretched on nearly to the horizon. There he saw a land mass beginning to rise above the beautiful meadows of the dream realm he seemed to be in. It seemed to be floating on its own. Above it roiled a mass of red and blue clouds. Each time the opposing colors clashed, the impact caused lightning to spark and crackle through the air.
“The child. She still suffers so much.” The lady sighed in sorrow. “She only wished for a friend as she had none and the creature took advantage of that.”
“I see.”
“What is made real here, can be made real in your world. Hence, that.” Tobias saw that she was pointing at his own amulet laying across his chest. It was usually a black matte onyx type pendant with small carvings on it of various creatures. Now, in this place, it glowed with a wonderful indigo hue.
“That was created here but carried with you out there. What do you dream?”
“Of helping people. Of helping everyone I can.”
“Then use that will, that dream to help shape those around you.” The lady’s gown rustled as she moved and Tobias watched as she leaned forward to touch his medallion with a single finger. When she pulled back he took the medallion in his hands to take a closer look. He saw the image he had been trying to forget. The image of his home burning but frozen in a still image. A spear running through his mother and his father holding the spear in one hand and his mother in the other.
“You still fear that.”
“Yes.”
“It holds you back. Sometimes terrible things must be done to save the ones you love and sometimes sacrifices are required. Try again.”

Tobias focused once more to find that power within himself. He pushed out the ever present thought of his parents and his home out of his mind. The realm shifted and began to glow with a shimmering star like energy. His amulet was engulfed by the same light and he felt more in control.
“Dream something.” The lady encouraged him to create.
He closed his eyes and dreamed of his mother’s freshly steamed buns before him. He saw the plump dough and delicate steam rising from them. He opened his eyes and watched as before him appeared a platter just like he had dreamed. It was right out of his memory. He looked around him and saw that he was surrounded by a dome of sparkling stars nestled in velvet darkness. They twinkled all around him.
“This is the area which you can control for now. Even in the realms of other’s dreams. Your power will allow you to control anything in this area, but be aware, you are here. She reached out with a finger again and pushed his chest with it to show how real he was to her here.
“If you die here. You will die. You will never wake again. Hold out your hand.”
Tobias reached out his paw with trepidation and reverence. She dropped a sphere into it. It hovered in his palm for a moment. It elongated and reshaped itself into a long spear. Details forged into the living metal as it stretched and at the end was a tip of what looked like starry glass. At the other end sprouted a fluff of fur and other adornments to compliment the spear.
“Take this fragment of my power. I call it The Twilight Omen. This will help you in times of need, but I don’t think you can do this alone.”
“I don’t either. I have friends out there, I think, that are willing to help me.”
“Friends. I see people dream of friends. Ella dreams of friends. Find her. Find her dream and stop the creature. As long as it controls her, it will be unstopable.”
Tobias nodded his agreement and then had a thought. He might be able to reach Ella from here. He closed his eyes and concentrated. He felt, off into the distance, a faint presence. The bad news was that it was coming from the direction of the clashing clouds. He could feel the pull from here but somehow, he knew he would not be able to reach that place in the distance. It would be too far for him to travel right now with no one to accompany him.
“Is there a way for me to bring the others with me here?”
“Trust in your power. It will make everything happen. Find the girl and protect her dreams or she will never escape and He will break through.”
Tobias was confused about who she was speaking of but before he could ask she lifted her finger to his forehead.
“Now wake.”
