Tobias awoke with the sun shining overhead. The brightness hurt his eyes a bit as he adjusted and recognized where he found himself back in the waking world. It was so different from the dreamscape. Everything was louder here. The birds were chirping and the festival was just starting to kick back in. Still, he felt well rested and more at ease than he had in a long time after that dream talk with the Lady.
Then he remembered the amulet at his neck and grabbed at it to check. It was the same onyx stone as before, but next to him he saw his spear. The gold shone in the bright noon sun. He also felt confident that he could travel to the dreamscape with some of his friends with a ritual. He could bring them along now. Not all of them, but some was better than nothing. He could also try to force people into the dreamscape too, but that could wait to be tested. He also knew in his mind now that time moved much slower in the dreamscape than in the waking world. They would have plenty of time to travel in the dreams.

Tobias stretched and readied himself for the day. He began to prepare breakfast for the others. As soon as they smelled the delicious aromas wafting through the air they awoke. Bogbean popped up first, hungry and salivating at the scents. Tobias made a little extra for her hearty appetite. The others joined her before long after taking care of their morning routines.
Tonight was the preliminary ceremony before the final battle so there would be no fights that day. They had the entire day open to them. Luna opted to forage for herbs and special ingredients. Drexla and Bogbean agreed to go with her. Tobias also tagged along as he wanted to find more affordable ingredients for his buns than what was available to him at the shops. He had to find a way to bring his costs down. V also agreed to tag along with a reluctance nod. Luna asked Bricky if he wanted to come along.
“I don’t believe I have much of a choice.”
“What do you mean?”
“Sicher und zusammen.”
“I don’t know what that means.”
“Safe and Together.”
“Oh that is a good point. I would feel much safer with you around.”
In the end it seemed all of them would be heading out to forage and gather various ingredients.
“You know you could probably also find a lot of things for your strange substances.” Luna told V.
“I don’t know what you’re talkin about.” V denied everything.
“can you eat em?” Bogbean asked with a hungry smile.
“You certainly can!” V laughed.
“I wouldn’t recommend it Bogbean, those things aren’t food. They made you do and see strange things when you eat them.”
“oh like feycaps!” Bogbean pulled out a few to show them.
“Oh well, yes.” Luna said with a deflated tone.
That reminded Drexla about her own substance and she went to whisper a reminder to V that she might need a refill soon. She was not all that quiet about her request so Luna and Tobias hear. Luna asked if she knew what that was made of. Drexla didn’t. V went red as his mind recalled the main ingredient of the substance. It was fairy wings. However, upon learning this, Drexla didn’t seem to care. She had never had wings so she didn’t understand what the big deal was. She just wanted her dust. The others were appalled. They began questioning V and his motives, his prices and his use of this substance. They wondered if he had anything to do with Drexla’s missing wings. He didn’t have anything to do with the making of the substance only its procurement for his own business. Drexla also didn’t have any scars or marks to indicate removal of wings. Her back was smooth.
“I’m pretty sure I was born this way.” Drexla said.
“Are you sure?” Luna asked.
“There are no scars. It’s all smooth back there so I never had wings to begin with and no magic.”
“So you really were born without wings!” Luna exclaimed, “At least we now know they weren’t plucked out by some unsavory types.’

“Well for enough bags of that fae powder, i might have taken the deal.” Drexla mumbled to herself.
Luna saw the look on Drexla’s face as she stared at a tiny pouch of the shimmering powder she inhaled regularly.
“Would you like me to hold on to that for you?” She asked with a worried tone in her voice. Drexla immediately declined.
“No, no. I’ve got it.”
“She’s fine.” V reassured Luna.”
“How is she fine? She’s snorting her own people!”
“It’s just the wings.” Drexla justified.
“You don’t know that.” V denied with great vehemence in his voice. “They could have been evil fae for all you know.”
“They might have been nice.” Luna started to say but suddenly a different world overtook her. She found herself in a different place surrounded by chaos. Another vision. This one was not so inspiring. Luna could see small being flying around in the air. Their shimmering wings were beautiful but the screams around her were not. They were giggling and laughing as the screams of mortals reached them as they were enveloped in pain from their games. She saw one of the flying beings come down to a small child crying in the open. The little boy was all alone and the creature touched the crown of his head. He turned inside out before Luna’s eye and she could do nothing to stop them. They sky above was blood red with blue lightning crackling above. Then her vision cut out and she was back with her group.
“They killed so many people!” She sobbed out.
“Who?”
“The faeries!” They killed and laughed while they did it! How could they do that?”
“There’s probably a good reason why people hate the Fae and the Daemons.” Drexla agreed.
“I’m sorry but your people seem horrible. If I didn’t know better about you, I would say they were all evil.”
“We are all capable of evil. The Fae are no different.” Drexla explained.
“That is also true.” Luna agreed.
“I don’t know. I’ve never seen the Rooka do anything like that.” Tobias quipped.
“I’ve never seen any of the Myr’Rin do anything like that.” Luna added. “There are legends of Fae, but they are mostly of the stronger ones that cause massive devastation. These were beautiful, tiny creatures ravaging a small village somewhere.”
“And humans killed and burned my mother and father. There are many sides to evil.” Drexla tried to calm her down.”
“Too true.” Luna sniffled.
“Vhas did zhe child look like Luna?” Bricky asked.
“He was quite small with blond hair and blue eyes.”
“Oh.” Bricky responded, touching his blue eye and thinking of where those parts may have come from.
“What could the hume have done to anger them?”
“Nothing that we know of. From what little I’ve gathered, it was an occurrence from one day to the next, with now discernable point of origin. They just started appearing and interfering with people. They would make people laugh dance and eat themselves to death for fun. Make them imbibe strange concoctions to see what would happen. The daemons appeared around the same time doing similar things but with greater cruelty.”
“whats worse than turning someone inside out?”
“Well, when you’re a daemon, the depths of pain can be endless.”
“Unfortunately, that’s what happens when humes go starting wars and messing with other people.” Drexla argued.

“That’s just it though, everything I’ve read points to it being a peaceful era. No wars were being waged. Everyone seemed content and working in harmony. Then something happened that broke the world.”
“I’ve heard the elves had something to do with that.”
“I’ve heard that too but nobody knows that happened. They just blame the elves and the Myr’Rin. Especially the black Rhomar.”
“And we don’t know what happened with the Fae either.” Drexla countered.
“I just saw it!” Luna retorted.
“All I know is I don’t know how to turn people inside out so you’re safe from me.” Drexla offered.
“I didn’t think you would do that Drexla.” Luna reassured her. “To be honest, the fact that you do not have magic does make me more at ease around you. No offense, but it’s just after what I’ve seen..” Luna trailed off.
“I know it’s better for you guys but I am weaker without magic to defend myself.”
“Ve have all had out ups und downs ja?”
“Well, I’ve never seen Drexla do anything evil so I have no reason not to trust her. You on the other hand were seeming very suspicious and then we found out you cannot control what you are doing. It’s not your fault you can’t tell us. We just need to find out how to work with you to get the answers we need.”
“Vhat about V?”
“Well, I always assume that one’s lying, but there is something about him that seems trustworthy to me. A small shine of something noble.”
“He’s never lied, only not told everything that didn’t need to be told.” Drexla defended her new captain.
“Yes, he does have a right to his own privacy I suppose.” Luna agreed.
“I vunder if the parts were reused?”
“What in my vision?”
“Ja. At Castle Isenstadt, all parts were reused und recycled.”
“Oh I did not need to know that.”
“I only bring it up because I mentioned zhat ve use small creatures like Bogbean to clean zhe pipes in zhe castle.”
“You mean they are using undead children to clean the pipes in the castles in Undabar?”
“Zhey are zhe only ones who can fit in zhe pipes.” Bricky shrugged. “Zhey are all Bogbean size. Some are mechanical but most are recycled flesh.”
“I just vundered because of the vision.”
“I didn’t see that far, only the boy being turned inside out.”
“You get visions?” Tobias asked with intrigue in his voice.
“Yes, I’ve been getting them recently. Since arriving here.”
