After a few hours of preparation, the battles were set to begin and the groups made their way to the arena for the bouts. It was a bit strange to be preparing to fight in a battle for fun, not for their lives. At the arena, the various teams milled around waiting for their turn to draw for their battles. When it was their turn Tobias won their first draw and his team was called for the first round in the arena.

The battle and the opponents were announced and the preparations began. Music begins to play, the sounds of drums filled the air as the thunder built up the gathered crowds into a fervor. The music reached a crescendo as the two teams stepped into the arena. First was Tobias’ team and then entered their opponents. Three towering Tuskari entered the ring in familiar full armor. It was Naz and his group.

Upon seeing Tobias in the ring, Naz raised his large paw in Tobias’ direction and laughed. It boomed across the arena. When the bell rang for the fight to begin, Naz was the first one to sprint into action. He went rushing in to attach Tobias. When he got in close, he snarled at Tobias,

“I knew this day would come!”

Naz swung his hammer and the fight began without further hesitation. Bogbean burst into action in a powerful lunge, biting as her jaws turned into elongated fangs to tear her target apart with. With one bite of her fearsome fangs, Bogbean latched onto Naz’s collar and began chewing to get to the meat underneath the metal armor. Naz flailed around in surprise and panic. She managed to get some blood before she was flung off. His blood spurted on the ground a bit and Bogbean lapped it up, looking him in the eyes as the match got well under way.

Bricky saw Bogbean in action and moved to help her. He moved closer and stopped, he pulled his hands to his face and concentrated on Naz. He had no way to protect against this new kind of onslaught so he was afflicted with a massive headache and a drain on his strength as his vitality was leeched out of him by the undead man. He screamed in pain and outrage at his newly acquired weakness. Naz’s friends stood frozen by the initial gory violence but soon shook it off and rushed forward. Tobias held them off at first as Bricky and Bogbean took on Naz.

Naz tried to recover too, swinging his hammer down at Bogbean but missing as she jumped out of the way. The hammer got stuck in the ground from the force of his blow and Bogbean jumped at this chance. She took out the vial of poison that Luna had given her earlier and ran up the stuck hammer towards Naz’s face. When she got close, she smashed it into the side of his face with all the force she could muster.

Again, Naz yelled out in pain and grabbed at his face trying to get Bogbean, the glass, and the poison off of him. Bricky moved in getting another vantage on the fighters and leeched their essence from them again, causing a great deal of pain to his targets. Tobias took his shot and sent a bolt of white light hurtling towards Naz. It pierced through him without doing visible damage, but he could see Naz struggling and blood trickling down the side of his mouth after the attack. He moved forward a few steps as if to attack before his eyes rolled into the back of his head and he fell face down in the ring.

Bogbean faced off against the other two and barely dodged when a large hammer came swinging at her head. With a flick of her hands she managed to redirect the attack and the hammer slammed in the other companion’s face instead with a nasty crunch. At this point Naz had not gotten up and seemed to be out of the fight for good. Medics came in and removed him from the battle. That left the two companions, who were a bit more experienced than the traveler’s team. Bricky again tried his leeching on one of the companions and managed to make them wince a bit as some pain broke through but he soon brushed it off.

The other companion turned to them and extended his hand toward the ground, making it shake underneath the group. He turned towards Bricky and slashed him with his spear, butting his with the handle afterwards for good measure. Bricky fell over and did not get up. Bogbean went wild at seeing her new friend be cut down. She went to bite at the one holding the spear’s hand and managed to grab on once more. With a great bite from her jaws, she engulfed the wrist of the hand holding the spear. When she moved away, the hand had let go of the spear and it dangled from a flap of skin, useless. Bogbean didn’t waste her opportunity, with another great bite, she tore the hand clean off and swallowed it before the Tuskari warrior’s eyes. He screamed in agony and was removed from the battle by the medics. It had been his last good hand as the other was already a stump from a previous injury from years ago. That just left one warrior left for the other team.

In the next round, Bricky was also removed from the arena as he has still not gotten up from his attack. Tobias, seeing his friend removed, knew it was going to be tricky to win. So, he sent another bolt of white light towards the last fighter standing for the other team. It went through the last Tuskari, causing more damage to him. Bogbean sized up the last warrior and ran at him with full force. She leapt into the air and bit into his shoulder as she came down in a fury. With that great bite, she managed to take a good chunk out of their final opponent. Tobias took the opportunity to engulf the area they were in, in a smokey twilight that made seeing a bit difficult but made Bogbean and Tobias feel so much better.

The Tuskari warrior panicked at the attack from Bogbean and began flailing around with his hammer trying to smack her off. He hit her but she didn’t seem to feel it. Tobias was glad his twilight was helping them. Bogbean kept gnawing at him. The pain and panic were so bad that the warrior passed out. His head hit the ground with a loud thud as he slipped into unconsciousness. Tobias saw that he was down and got an idea. He walked over, within the obscuring gloom of his cover, and propped a foot upon the prostrate Tuskari. Then he lifted the spell and revealed himself atop the warrior, in victory.

As soon as the battle was declared in their favor, Tobias made sure the injured warrior remaining on the field received immediate care. He cleaned the wounds and stopped the bleeding on the most egregious ones. He applied a soothing, healing poultice to each wound and bruise and wrapped them in cloth before letting the official medics take him away. He went to help the others but found his way blocked by other Tuskari, unwilling to work with him because he was shunned. With that the battle was over and soon it would be the next bracket’s turn to compete.
